Pricing For Long Distance Moves

Most long distance movers charge customers based upon metrics that cannot be easily verified. Whether it be a strictly per pound or cubic foot rate, pricing often includes hidden fees and is not transparent. Long distance moving is logistically more complex than local relocation. That’s why StarCity has come up with a simple guaranteed flat-rate system which covers all costs associated with your transition. This provides you with the peace of mind of knowing exactly how much you’re going to pay in advance. StarCity’s prices are based upon the following factors:

  1. Volume of Shipment and Manpower Requirement

The size of your shipment is calculated in cubic feet. This will ultimately determine what size truck you will require. The volume of your shipment may also determine your move’s manpower requirements.
  2. Your Choice of Service Package

    • Bronze - StarCity’s Bronze package is best suited for individuals who want to actively participate in their moves and/or are on a budget. Customers pack their own boxes, while StarCity pads furniture items with care and provides the labor and the truck.
    • Silver - StarCity’s Silver service is best suited for busier professionals who require expert packing services - StarCity offers a variety of customized packing plans. Silver clients may also choose to opt for StarCity’s comprehensive moving insurance packages, which will ensure their belongings are fully covered during the long distance move.
    • Gold - Comprehensive moving and packing services for clients who want to experience a truly effortless move. This is a customizable relocation package to meet the most individualized long distance moving needs.
  3. Long Distance Relocation Logistics

The following questions are used to help determine the price of your move:

    • What is the mileage between the origin and destination?
    • What items are you moving?
    • What will the duration of your move be and how many days of driving will it entail?
    • Do you require expedited delivery?
    • How far is legal parking from the building’s access door?
    • Does the building have an elevator or is it a walkup?
    • If there is no elevator, how wide/narrow is the staircase?
    • How far is the elevator from the service entrance?
    • How far is the apartment from the service elevator?
    • How large is the elevator?
    • Is it running smoothly?
    • Do all furniture pieces fit through hallways and doorways?
    • If not, will any doors have to come off or will furniture pieces have to be dismantled?
    • Will furniture pieces that don’t fit into the elevator have to be carried up the stairs?
  4. Move Timing

As mentioned in Moving 101, the middle and end of every month are when most people need to move- this is when it’s more expensive. It is also more costly to move during the busy summer months (from the middle of May to the middle of September. Check out StarCity’s flexible rate schedule to find out which moving dates will cost you less. Since long distance moves can often take more than a single day, it makes sense to try to schedule them during less busy times in order to receive the best long distance moving price.
  5. Travel Distance, Extra Stops and Weather Conditions

Gas, tolls, travel time, mileage, etc., are all included in your flat rate price from StarCity. Extra stops, depending on the travel distance and other logistics may affect price. Unlike other cross-country movers, StarCity will never make you pay for unforeseen circumstances, such as: bad weather and/or traffic conditions.
  6. Disassembly/Re-assembly

StarCity’s flat rates include basic disassembly and re-assembly of most items. Special disassembly/re-assembly may factor into flat rate for more complex furniture pieces.
  7. Extra Fragile/Heavy Items

Items that require special handling due to their delicate or bulky nature may affect rates.
  8. Packing/Unpacking

Packing and Unpacking services are additional services that can be provided separately.
  9. Moving Supplies

Starcity will use all necessary moving equipment (i.e. shrink wrap, moving blankets, hand trucks, dollies etc) to handle your furniture pieces. In case packing services are contracted, we will also provide applicable packing supplies. Customers can order a wide variety of Moving Supplies from StarCity’s online store.
