Moving Insurance- New Jersey
StarCity Moving is dedicated to handle customer belongings with extreme care and diligence. We use the best moving techniques and moving equipment to make sure our NJ clients' inventory makes it as safely as possible from point A to point B. Nevertheless, even the best planned and executed NJ move may run into unexpected challenges. A New Jersey moving company's liability is governed by the valuation statement on the bill of lading (acts as the moving contract). StarCity offers a variety of coverage options to protect your belongings
Option 1: Basic Liability Coverage
Basic liability coverage represents the minimum insurance coverage mandated by law. The basic coverage is $0.30 per pound for hourly moves and $0.60 per pound for flat rate moves. Since StarCity is a flat rate mover, basic liability is $0.60 per pound. This option is no additional charge to the customer and represents what StarCity is legally responsible for.
If a 200 pound sofa gets lost or damaged, you would receive $120 (200 x $0.60), regardless of the sofa’s actual value. Item weights are determined by the American Moving and Storage Association’s (AMSA’s) table of weights.
Option 2: Full Replacement Value Insurance
For customers who are seeking full protection of their belongings, while in transit, StarCity offers full replacement value coverage. The cost of the policy is dependent upon your choice of deductible. StarCity provides coverage for policies starting from $10,000. The cost of the policies are as follows:

StarCity’s full replacement value insurance covers the actual cash value (ACV) of your entire shipment as shown on the bill of lading. Please take the time to carefully assess the total value of your shipment.
Note: make sure $ value you claim for your shipment on the bill of lading matches the $ amount of the shipment you purchase insurance for. If you under-insure your inventory, you will not enjoy full insurance coverage.
Example: If you claim your shipment is worth $40,000 on the bill of lading, but only purchase $20,000 worth of replacement value insurance for your move, the policy will only cover 50% of losses/damages incurred.
Exclusions for Valuation (Insurance) Coverage
StarCity is not responsible for:
- Items of extraordinary value not listed on the High Value Inventory List.
- Loss or damage to valuables (i.e. jewelry, cash, coins etc)- should be transported separately by owner.
- Damage to internal electrical or mechanical components unless external damages are evident at the time of delivery.
- Damage to furniture made from particle board and/or press board (includes many furniture items purchased from Ikea and Staples).
- Loss or damage consisting of breakage of glassware, china, bottles or other delicate items, unless belongings were packed by StarCity Moving. - Previously damaged or repaired items.
- Previously damaged or loose veneer.
Certificates of Insurance
StarCity Moving holds General Liability Insurance coverage as well as Workers’ Compensation insurance coverage. A large portion of doorman/elevator buildings in the New York Tri-State area require certificates of insurance (COI’s), prior to Moving Day. StarCity provides its customers with COI’s at no additional charge.
